Interactive Trainer Treadmill Here to Stay

September 10, 2008 by Andy · Leave a Comment

Most treadmills built in the last few years have been equipped with the necessary hardware and software to turn it into an Interactive Trainer Treadmill. While not so long ago the Interactive Trainer Treadmill seemed like something from a distant future, the future is upon us, and the Interactive Trainer Treadmill is here to stay in our fitness landscape. And many can’t wait to see where technology is going to take it.

The early days of the interactive treadmill meant nothing more than one, maybe a few, pre-programmed workouts. And the only display, if any, was a bar graph or a line graph. They were not very interesting.

Today’s interactive treadmills, however, are fascinating, and the models are becoming more interactive and more complex each year. Many people enjoy the fact that these treadmills seem to challenge them as much as they challenge themselves, with professionally designed programs. Some models even offer a pre-recorded trainer who offers motivational thoughts and encouragement. High-energy music is also often included.

Some consoles have advanced to the point where a video screen takes the user through a walk or job through various famous cities. And it’s this type of escapism experience, on a much larger scale with more of a virtual reality component, that could be in the future for interactive treadmills.

Future gyms may contain treadmill rooms that will look like and feel like one of those virtual reality golf games found in golf centres across North America, and virtual reality glasses or goggles may become part of the treadmill uniform. But while the Interactive Trainer Treadmill may be here to stay, we may not recognize it in a few years.
