Keep Safe with Trampoline Safety Parts

September 10, 2008

Everyone who has ever jumped on a trampoline can remember leg scrapes from the springs or falling off when a jump goes awry. Trampolining can be a dangerous sport, but trampoline safety parts are available to reduce the risks of jumping.

The biggest risk on a trampoline, accounting for approximately 80% of trampoline injuries, is falling off. A simple trampoline net made of soft nylon encloses the jumping surface (the mat) and is available in all sizes. The opening of the enclosure is overlapping, providing safety around the entire mat. Further, the opening can be locked with a bicycle lock, ensuring that the only people using your trampoline are the ones you know about.

Pads are an important investment. Trampoline pads should cover the springs entirely. Pads come in a variety of thickness, ranging from 1/4" (the standard with which most trampolines come equipped) to 1" on more deluxe pads. Skirts on the deluxe models help keep the pads in place.

When considering the young jumper, a target on the mat gives additional safety. This allows the jumper to always be aware of where the middle of the jumping surface - the safest area on a trampoline - is. This is generally screened onto the mat. However, over time, the screen can fade. Giving more safety are targets that are woven into the mat’s fabric.

For younger or smaller children, a ladder can provide safety to jumpers getting on and off the trampoline. For younger jumpers, consider the additional safety of elastic bands rather than springs.

The best safety parts are new parts. Make sure to replace mats and pads when they tear or have holes in them, and replace springs at the first sign of wear or defective bounce.

Trampoline Injury and Safety

Trampoline accidents are no fun!

Trampolines may be a great way for kids to enjoy being outside but there are many trampoline accidents each year. If you want to avoid trampoline accidents at your house there are some things you should know.

Trampoline accidents are caused when children land wrong when jumping. Broken bones and sprains are often part of trampoline accidents. Jumpers can experience concussions, bruises and scrapes while jumping on the trampoline.

When people attempt stunts that are dangerous or that they are not trained to do, trampoline accidents can occur. Sometimes jumpers misjudge their jumps and land on the springs or the frame.

If more than one person is jumping at a time trampoline accidents can happen when the jumpers collide. There are also times when a jumper will fall off the trampoline and this will result in an injury.

To avoid trampoline accidents, young jumpers should be supervised. If you do not want your children jumping on a trampoline you should contact their friends before your children visit to make sure they will not be using a trampoline. Trampoline accidents have occurred when parents did not even know their child was playing on a trampoline.

Trampoline accidents can be very serious and cause neck and spinal cord injuries. If there is a trampoline accident and you are present you should take the accident seriously. Do not move a person who has fallen from a trampoline if they can not move on their own. Call 911 immediately in this situation.

Unfortunately trampoline accidents happen but they don’t need to happen as often if the trampoline is used safely.

Trampoline Injuries Can Be Avoided

Trampolines are a very popular form of exercise and entertainment in the United States and abroad. Trampoline injuries are on the rise and the injuries are sometimes quite serious.

Trampoline injuries involving those who are eight years old and older include broken necks, spinal cord injuries, disabling head traumas and permanent paralysis. There have been deaths reported because of trampoline injuries.

To prevent these serious trampoline injuries as well as those that are less serious you need some good information about trampolines. When you have trampoline knowledge you should be able to make the trampoline safer for everyone.

Buy a good quality trampoline. There are some trampolines that are not well-made and consequently are not as safe. Shop around before you make a purchase and compare the specifications of each model. You may need to pay more for the trampoline but it will be worth it. Also, dont forget the safety cage or enclosure.

When you set the trampoline up make sure you follow all the directions. Setting up the trampoline properly can help you to avoid trampoline injuries. Also check the trampoline on a regular basis to make sure it is in good shape and none of the parts are damaged or missing.

Establish rules for safe bouncing. One person at a time is a good rule for the smaller trampoline. Many injuries result when jumpers run in to each other on the trampoline.

Supervise the jumpers. This is especially important for the younger children. The kids may not be old enough or trustworthy enough to play safely on the trampoline without a little adult guidance.

Be smart and avoid trampoline injuries.
