Trampoline Nets

September 10, 2008

One of the joys of trampolining is seeing how high you can jump. One of the greatest fears is jumping too high and falling off the trampoline onto the hard ground ten feet below you. Do away with that fear with a netted enclosure. Trampoline netting attaches to the frame of your trampoline and encloses the jumping surface. An overlapping entrance allows jumpers to get easily on and off while still having the jumping surface completely surrounded at all times. Trampoline netting is generally six feet high and comes in a variety of sizes to fit most trampolines. The netting can either be mounted on the inside of the jumping surface or on the outside frame. Mounting it on the frame maintains a larger jumping area.

Trampoline netting has a 1" mesh is usually made from either a soft but strong nylon or polyethylene. Nylon nets have the highest break resistance. However, if not treated properly, nylon absorbs water and sunlight, thereby making the netting deteriorate more quickly. Polyethylene isn’t as strong as nylon, but is cheaper to produce and doesn’t deteriorate as rapidly, and therefore makes for more cost-effective trampoline netting.

Trampoline netting is easy to install. No special equipment or drilling is needed.

Make sure when you purchase trampoline netting that it is UV resistant for longer wear. A trampoline with an enclosure is more likely to be blown about by the wind. Consider buying anchors when you purchase your trampoline netting.

For safety purposes, make sure that children do not climb the netting or use it to rebound back onto the jumping surface.

Trampoline Nets to prevent injury

Eighty percent of trampoline injuries are the result of the jumper falling off the trampoline. Trampoline nets provide an extra measure of safety for anyone who enjoys jumping. The net, made of strong, durable nylon, encloses the jumping surface. Trampoline nets rise approximately six feet above the mat or bed of the trampoline and are supported by steel poles that bolt onto the trampoline frame. These steel poles are padded to provide extra safety. An overlapping entrance allows jumpers easy access to the mat.

Trampoline nets can be mounted on either the frame or the trampoline bed. If mounted on the bed, the jumping surface is reduced by a small amount. Nets that mount on the existing frame, enclosing the frame pads along with the bed, don’t limit the jumping surface and can be mounted without any further modification such as drilling or cutting.

In addition to safety, another benefit of nets is the ability to play games within the netted enclosure. One of the most popular is basketball, with the hoop attached to the upper portion of the net. The net allows jumpers to focus on playing the game while greatly reducing the risk of falling off the trampoline.

Because of the overlapping entrance on the net, the trampoline enclosure can be locked using a standard bicycle chain and lock. This ensures that your trampoline isn’t used by adventurous neighbor children or by anyone when you are not there to supervise.

While trampoline nets provide a measure of safety for the jumper, nets are not meant to be rebound walls or for such things as climbing.
